Today we have put the spotlight on our Director, Chris Hunt, to find out about his work and why he chose to move into the industry.
Why did you choose Quantity Surveying?
Whilst travelling in NZ I worked in stone masonry, and I actually came back home wanting to get in to that. However, after advice from friends and with a couple having gone into Quantity Surveying I did some work experience with one of them at Babcock and I decided it was the career for me.
Best thing about being a QS?
The variety of work and physically seeing a project take shape.
Hardest thing about being a QS?
When people go ‘radio silent’ when it gets challenging, communication is massive.
Favourite project worked on?
Morrison Convenience store roll out programme. It was fast paced, all over the country and it gave me the ability to develop my capability as a QS/Employers Agent generally and in retail.
Proudest career moment?
Turning round a significantly loss-making measured term contract after many had tried before. It was a great team effort that took a lot of hard work.
Favourite building?
The Shard.
What advice would you give someone currently looking at career choices in the industry?
Research through websites such as Go Construct and get a practical insight through work experience.
What would you change about the construction industry?
I would remove the mistrust that exists and promote collaboration.
If you were not a QS, what would you be?
A pilot. 🛩
